J. K. Champion M.D. F.A.C.S. is a nationally recognized expert in videoscopic general and thoracic surgery. After receiving his medical degree from The University of Alabama, he completed his general surgery training at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama in 1981. In addition he received his thoracic surgery training at The University of West Virginia in 1983. Dr. Champion is board certified by The American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
He is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, Society of Surgery of the Alimentary Tract and the American Society of Bariatric Surgery. He currently holds an academic position as Clinical Professor of Surgery at Mercer University, and has served as Director of Endosurgical Education at the Emory Endosurgical Center, Emory University School of Medicine.
Dr. Champion has written numerous surgical textbook chapters and actively publishes articles on advanced videoscopic surgical techniques he has developed or refined. He lectures and teaches extensively in the United States, Europe and Asia.
