| Dr. Martinez graduated from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines in 1976 and began to work with weight-loss patients in 1979. In addition to being a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery and Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, he belongs to the International Federation for the Surgery of the Obese. Since 1998 he has operated on patients from across the United States and from Canada and the Philippines. He says, "Obesity is the number one reversible cause of death. Watching people grow healthier after surgery is the most gratifying aspect of my work. It's wonderful."
