Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
It is not just one patient but many. Those who are able to lose enough weight to walk again, stop their medications, hike up mountains, travel in airplane. These are all great experiences for the patients and myself.

What is your charity organization of choice and why?
Africa Mission Alliance. The funds donated to these children allows them to have beds, clothing and to go to school. These are things that most American children take for granted. It's a great feeling to know that these children are being given an opportunity.

What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
Having the ability to cure diabetes, sleep apnea, arthritis, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol is a skill that I am fortunate to have developed. No other choice could have given me the ability to treat so many illnesses.

When (your age) did you first realize you wanted to become a surgeon? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal?
Medical School. The first day in the operating room and my choice was made.

Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
All medical comorbidities resolved and a normal body weight achieved.

What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
I like them all. I really enjoy helping the patient make the best choice of procedures rather than trying to convince them that one of the procedures is best. Too many practices focus on offering just one or two procedues and discounting the others as dangerous or ineffective. I feel patients should have an informed choice.
