An inside interview with LocateADoc.com
Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
Releasing a burn scar contracture of a young Kenyan African girl whose upper arm was stuck to her torso for ten years before I released it with flaps and grafts. The parents were so happy of this life-changing operation that they offered me a goat.
What is your charity organization of choice and why?
Medical mission organizations, of which there are many. World Medical Missions in Boone, NC is the medical arm of Samaritan's Purse run by Franklin Graham.
What does living in the Fayetteville community mean to you?
I was born and raised in Fayetteville. I have come back home to offer state of the art procedures moving from my hospital overlooking the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France to my office overlooking the Bordeaux Tower in Fayetteville.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
Carpe diem! (Seize the day!)
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
The word Plastic in Plastic Surgery comes from the Greek word,"plasticos," which means to mold and to shape. What a blessing it is to change people's lives with God-given skills. I love going into work. It is a healing of the body, mind and spirit. To whom much is given, much is expected.
Finish this sentence: If I weren't a doctor I would be___.
a motivational speaker. I love to bring out the positive nature in people.
When (your age) did you first realize you wanted to become a surgeon? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal?
My father was a local family doctor in
Fayetteville. Ever since 2nd grade, I wanted to be a doctor. Finishing medical school, I desired to go into surgery so in world missions, I could not only treat medical diseases but perform operations, if necessary. When in General Surgery training, I experienced Plastic Surgery combining the skill of surgery with the art of reconstruction. The doctors were genuine human beings seeking to help others in a pleasant environment. I knew it was perfect for me and I have never looked back!
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
A perfect outcome is when the patient is happy and satisfied with their results.
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
Breast surgeries including breast reductions and reconstruction as well as abdominoplasties. These procedures literally and figuratively change people's lives.
What procedure would you like to do more of and why?
Pediatric plastic surgeries in third world countries. I would like to give back to those in need from the skills and talents that have been given to me.
In a perfect world, when would you like to retire, where would you go and what would you do?
I would continue to do more volunteer world medical missions providing health care to the less fortunate around the world. I also have a satellite practice at Blowing Rock Hospital in breath-taking Blowing Rock, NC.
