It is important to take the time to educate the patients about their own unique anatomical and physiological differences between the patient’s own body make up and their desired result. When this is explained many patients become more realistic about what can and cannot be changed by plastic surgery. Each person has a unique physical appearance and self image as well as a desired level of change. This desire for improvement is carefully listened to and evaluated prior to surgery.
With Dr. Chau’s surgical experience and artistic judgment, he allows the participation of the patient to make an informed decision as to which procedures are the most beneficial to them. Honesty allows the patient to realize that there are limitations and complications with any corrective procedure. At times, Dr. Chau will say “no” to a certain procedure requested because it is not realistic or in the best interest of the patient. At other times, Dr. Chau may suggest alternative treatment or surgical procedures to achieve a more realistic result. It is also the responsibility of the surgeon to point out the positives and negatives of the procedure the patient is considering so that an informed decision can be made.
Dr. Chau will spend the necessary time to outline the surgical procedure and detail of the operation with illustrations, photos, and educational material. This includes necessary pre-operative education and detailed post operative care instructions to achieve the most optimal results.
