X's Q & A

Q&A: Is it normal to have sharp pain 2 years after breast reduction surgery?

Long-term pain after breast reduction surgery is not typical. Whether this represents an area of fat/breast tissue necrosis, cyst formation or scar tissue are possibilites. You should have either a mammogram or MRI for further evaluation of your breast pain concerns.

Q&A: How safe is Botox injections to help alleviate migraines?

I do Botox for cosmetic reasons, but Botox is FDA approved for Migraine, so you could be reassured that it's very safe.

Q&A: What type of doctor should I contact for an unusual vortex in vision?

I would recommend that your daughter see an eye doctor for a dilated eye examination.

Q&A: Should I see an ear, nose and throat doctor for a hearing aid?

Yes, you should see an ENT specialist that has an Au.D. (Doctor of Audiology) on staff who can perform a diagnostic comprehensive audiogram and Hearing Aid Evaluation.

Q&A: Is Frontalis Sling Surgery reversible for Congenita Ptosis?

Dear Pang................thank you for your question regarding congenital ptosis, which as you may know is completely different from acquired ptosis. Although I personally do not treat or operate on congenital ptosis patients, the best method for helping alleviate the symptoms is a frontalis sling, which is intended such that the patient uses their forehead frontalis muscle to help elevate the eyelid. The aesthetic results are far from perfect because in congenital ptosis the levator muscle has not developed properly. Typically in true congenital ptosis performing a levator muscle resection has little, if any, effect as the muscle has not developed from birth and therefore will not work by simply shortening or tightening it.
Best wishes in your search for improvement of your eyelids!

Q&A: What can I do to help with uncontrolled crying?

Good afternoon,
It sounds as if you have had some major life changes in the past few months and that the additional stress may be affecting you more strongly emotionally than you might have expected. However, without knowing you or knowing any real history about you or your family, I would never want to make any assumptions. Have you had a physical exam recently to rule out any of the physical ailments you mentioned? My best suggestion would be for you to make an appointment for a physical if you have not had one, and to follow up with a face to face therapy intake assessment to discuss the emotional concerns you are having. My best to you, Jane Bisco, LCSW-C

Q&A: What should I do if I'm coughing up blood with the phlegm?

You should see a physician if you are coughing up blood or bloody mucous.

Q&A: What are the side effects of a tubal ligation reversal?

Thank you for your email inquiry.  Our tubal reversal surgery to include the physician, anesthesia, and facility fees are $5926.  The potential risks post operatively is an ectopic pregnancy which we review what to do to try to diagnose this early on when you become pregnant after the procedure.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Q&A: Can my tubes be reversed if they have been burned?

Hi Heather,
Good Question. When the doctor has burned the tube, we do not know if any reasonable ( functioning) tune is left. I recommend a laparoscopy first to detect the condition of the tubes and the pelvic organs. (If there are many adhesions, the reversal is difficult and may not work.)  This reply is also to inform you that I have retired from the practice. Please consult any good Ob-Gyn who has aptitude in tubal reversal and you will be in good hands. All the best.

Q&A: Can I become pregnant after having a tubal ligation 4 years ago?

Very likely YES!!!  There are 2 possible ways to do this.  Either a in vitro fertilization (IVF) or tubal re-anastomosis (reconnecting of your tubes.)  Since you are getting older, the quickest and most likely best way would be IVF.  It would be wise to test for ovarian function and male factor prior to attempting to determine the likelihood of success.
