LocateADoc Q&A
What is your charity organization of choice and why?
I am a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Kona Mauka. Rotary allows its members to provide community service at the local, regional, national and international level. During my presidency we helped build a water filtration system for a grade school in northeastern Thailand. We sent a high school exchange student from Kona this past year who was able to attend the dedication of the filtration system and accept the recipients thank you!
What is your favorite quote or saying?
"In Chinese, the word for crisis is wei ji, composed of the character wei, which means danger, and ji, which means opportunity." Jan Wong
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
Being trained in maxillofacial surgery and finishing with a fellowship in facial aesthetic surgery allows me the freedom to combine reconstructive and aesthetic procedures. There is a cross fertilization between reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. For example, the anatomic dissection for endoscopic forehead surgery borrows from our knowledge learned in facial reconstruction and uses it for a natural aesthetic improvement in the upper third of the face. I enjoy improving my patient's lives by providing the best procedure suited to their needs.
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
Exceeding the patient's expectation for the results they were seeking. Providing the patient with a natural appearing improvement in which nobody can tell the patient had a "procedure" performed.
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
My favorite procedure is the endoscopic forehead/browlift. It is a minimally invasive procedure in which a very precise anatomic dissection is completed and very natural appearing results accomplished in a short amount of time. Patient's love the decreased swelling, discomfort and "down-time" associated with the procedure.
