Daniel Haun, Licensed Acupuncturist
Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
I find that hearing a patient's own recognition that he or she is getting better is to me, the most rewarding aspect to what I do as an acupuncturist and herbalist.
What is your charity organization of choice and why?
I always like supporting the local food banks around San Diego. However, one of the things that we as a family like to do is fill up brown paper bags with say peanut butter, crackers, and a can of fruit juice and simply hand them out to homeless people whom are in need of a meal.
What does living in the Oceanside community mean to you?
Actually, I live in Carlsbad, and we love living here as we have access to a very beautiful area with a livable climate, and a progressive community.
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
I like solving problems. Traditional Chinese Medicine offers a rational approach with its own diagnostic and treatment system. Sometimes we get some patients with pretty tough cases where other modalities haven't been able to give them all of the help that they need (i.e., a satisfactory diagnosis and or treatment) and TCM might be able to give them some direction on how to go about treating their health problems.
Finish this sentence: If I weren't a doctor I would be___.
What procedure would you like to do more of and why?
I am investigating specializing in acupuncture for ophthalmic cases as I am finding a lot of my patients have vision problems. I think that TCM has a lot to offer in this field.
In a perfect world, when would you like to retire, where would you go and what would you do?
Right now I don't even think about retiring as I am enjoying doing what I do and that's helping people.
I began my professional life with a Bachelor’s degree in biology, working in environmental chemistry and molecular modeling. I received Masters degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in 1999.
