Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
I had a patient that was born with severely asymmetrical breasts. One was very large (G cup) and the other was very small (AAA cup) and tubular. We made her symmetrical and had a full C cup on both sides and was ecstatic! She could finally find clothes and swimsuits that fit. She could exercise without back pain and her confidence soared. She even got engaged after the improvement.
What is your charity organization of choice and why?
I volunteer my time as the director of the Border Children's Health Clinic. We serve children in our community that have congenital deformities - especially cleft lips and palates. I support this group and others with a similar purpose.
What does living in the El Paso community mean to you?
I'm a third generation El Pasoan and proud of it. I love the people, the climate and the culture. Not to mention the best Mexican food in the world. It also means I can give back to the community that has given so much to me.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
Matthew 7:12 or Luke 6:31 - Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
What makes your specialties the right fields of medicine for you?
I am a pen and ink artist and the artistic and creative aspects appeal to me greatly. I also enjoy improving patients quality of life.
Finish this sentence: If I weren't a doctor I would be___.
An architect or an artist.
When (your age) did you first realize you wanted to enter the health & medical field? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal?
I was in a car accident in college and one friend was killed and another was paralyzed (paraplegic). I suffered severe nerve damage and through this experience, my desire for a career in medicine was solidified.
Can you tell us in your own words what you consider a perfect outcome of a surgical procedure?
A perfect result and a satisfied patient. This is always our goal.
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
A mommy makeover with a breast augmentation and abdominoplasty because it makes such an immediate change that improves there quality of life.
What procedure would you like to do more of and why?
I enjoy all of the cases that I do. I just wish there were more than 24 hrs in a day so I could do more.
In a perfect world, when would you like to retire, where would you go and what would you do?
I don't think I will ever completely retire. As long as I am physically able, I would like to work. I may work less or take some longer breaks but I love what I do and gives me something to look forward to daily.
