Hi, I am a 46 year old women who was diagnosed with scleroderma, a very rare skin disorder which has only to date affected about 350,000 people. Scleroderma is Greek for Hard Skin, just to give you an idea of what my skin condition is like. It also affects the other vital organs, but I have been very luck and my organs have not been affected.
The reason for my story is because I was diagnosed at 36, and scleroderma causes "premature" wrinkles to face, especially the mouth area and the skin above the eye area grows very thick causing obstruction to ones Peripheral vision. The thickness of the skin is normal and the lines around the mouth are called "Linear Scleroderma." Sometimes the lines are so profound, they affect the underlying tissue.
My point is, 10 years ago at 38, I looked like a women 70 - I was not a candidate for any of the collogen injections at the time and truthfully, no dermatologist wanted to atke the risk with a patient who had this rare condition.
When I met Dr. Shalhub, he came highly recommended and was so thrilled to hear from my friend that would be glad to see me for a consultation, that he made no promises, but he would be happy to see me. I met him, that was in early 2012.
Today, in 2013, I have never looked and felt better in the 15 years! He held my hand, and together with my treating physician, both doctors treated me and began to build an upper lip, loosen and some of skin around the eyes with Botox shots. My vision is no so much obscured, I have a lift about my eyes and I look younger than I did at 36 before I diagnosed. Although my forehead is tight, due to the scleroderma, he is careful with the injections, and I never feel tight around my forehead. The arch on my brow as a result are beautiful.
The lips I now have are incredible, I challenge any random man to kiss me AND I AM SINGLE - LOL
I was so scared at first - When you are a patient who is sick, your always scared. I've been pocked at, pinched, put through machines, stared at like a medical laboratory project, and when I first walked in, Dr. Shalhub's office, simply welcomed me, with open arms, said good afternoon, the Dr. will be right with you Ms. Palacios, they already knew who I was and I walked in with 2 other people? Maritza was her name, I'll never forget. Then no more then 4 minuets passed, and the Dr. greeted me at the door. I walked in he asked me how I was and the consultation went on form there.
I cried, he held my hand and said: If you trust me, and if you work together with me and your doctor, I am confident we will find a filler right for you."
He was right, I was patient, and 1 year in the mailing, a very subtle look later, and 40 pounds lighter, everyone, but evbery9ne has complemented me, day after day. Not to tote my own horn, and I am not a conceded person, but I cant help but share my story with you
If you have Scleroderma, if you have a part of you that you would like to better, please, do not wait longer than you have to. Do something about it! It starts with you, and finishes with Dr. Shalhub.
Dr. Shalhub's staff is all dedicated to assisting your every need. They are highly trained. I cant tell you how comforting that is. There are no young kids who poke you with needles who don't know what their doing, they are all well mannered, understanding, kind, they always go the extra mile to make sure your comfortable, not waiting more than 5 minutes, FOR ANYTHING, and everyone knows everyone, its like a family.
I love Dr. Shalhub and I love his staff. If it weren't for Dr. Shalhub, I would still be feeling the effects of Scleroderma in a way that can only be described as vanity, but nonetheless, it is what it is, and I am a women still in what I consider her prime years and have been robbed of some of my better youthful years and although I will concede to old age, I will not yet, not now.
Thank you Dr. Schalhub, I will forever be grateful.
Thank you staff, MAritza, Mari, all of you guys!!!!!!
