Plastic surgery reports show that some of the most popular procedures include rhinoplasties, tummy tucks, and breast augmentations. But some people are surprised to see that other, more private areas of the body are being targeted by women and their surgeons. Buttock augmentation and vaginal rejuvenation, also known as a labiaplasty, saw tremendous growth last year. In fact, the number of buttock procedures rose by 58% in 2013. Nearly 10,000 buttock augmentations with fat grafting were performed last year. The number of vaginal rejuvenation procedures increased by 44% between 2012 and 2013.
Experts have a few theories on why the demand for these two procedures has seen such substantial growth. First, celebrities with curves are being celebrated and covered by the media. As a result, women are embracing their curves. Those who aren't as curvy as they'd like to be are turning to their surgeons to get the contours they desire. In terms of the growing numbers surrounding vaginal rejuvenation, surgeons credit the popularity of Brazilian waxing.
It's no surprise that new trends continue to emerge. Overall, the industry has seen a great deal of growth as both women and men become more knowledgeable about the many procedures available to them. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported that 15.1 million cosmetic procedures were performed in 2013, which represents a 3% increase over the previous year.
