With bathing suit season right around the corner, plastic surgeons across the country are finding more women are booking up appointments for body contouring and breast augmentation procedures. Dr. Michael Niccole, founder and medical director of CosmetiCare Plastic Surgery Center and MedSpa in Newport Beach, and one of the “Top Plastic Surgeons in America”, reports that his appointment books are full, with a high demand for breast implants, skin tightening procedures and body contouring procedures to help women lose a few inches around the hips and thighs.
Dr. Niccole reports, “Many of the patients requesting breast augmentation, breast lift or liposuction explain to me that they need to have surgery before summer weddings, beach parties and vacations begin. Unfortunately, if they don’t plan far enough in advance, they panic when they find it difficult to fit surgery into their schedule between work, family obligations and summer activities.”
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons 2009 survey reports that breast augmentation and liposuction have been among the top cosmetic procedures performed in the United States. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, along with the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, encourage patients to thoroughly evaluate the background of the plastic surgeon before booking their appointment, and ask for proof of board-certification and other credentials to determine if the doctor has a significant amount of experience performing these types of procedures.
Women who find that they do not have enough time to make an appointment and plan for downtime associated with surgery, may consider a non-invasive or minimally-invasive procedure instead. Skin tightening procedures such as Thermage, and cellulite reduction treatments such as VelaShape and SmoothShapes can help to improve the tone and texture of the skin without surgery. These procedures also demand very little downtime, so patients can resume regular activities – including heading to the beach – within a day after their procedure.
