According to a statement by Beyonce and Jay-Z, the power couple is “in heaven” over the birth of Blue Ivy Carter. Beyonce's website says the little girl was born by natural child birth on January 7, 2012. Like many other new mothers, Beyonce is likely noticing some changes to her body following the birth. Will those changes cause her to consider a mommy makeover?
Natural birth, while a beautiful and life changing moment, can change a woman’s body dramatically. Immediately following the birth, your uterus is about 15 times heavier than it was prior to pregnancy. Your breasts increase up to two cups sizes during the pregnancy, then likely decrease afterwards. This process almost always causes sagging of the breasts. Some women also have loose skin and stretched abdominal muscles from the pregnancy. As a result, many women these days are considering what’s called a mommy makeover to get them back into shape.
What is a Mommy Makeover?
Many women today feel frustrated over the changes in their body, following the delivery of their newborn. These women typically want their breasts and tummies back to pre-pregnancy stage. A mommy makeover is simply a combination of procedures performed to help mothers return to that body they had before they became pregnant. Typically the procedures are as follows:
- Breast Augmentation: Some women experience a drop in breast volume following their pregnancy. If women are breastfeeding, they will notice the breasts changing in size as the baby’s milk is constantly being made. Once the milk is no longer needed, women will notice the milk glands shrivel up and the breasts are a lot smaller than before. Some women would like to restore that volume with breast implants.
- Breast Lift: Weight loss and pregnancy can cause problems in elasticity and the breasts often lose their shape and firmness. When that happens, the breasts begin to sag. A doctor can restore your natural perkiness with a breast lift.
- Tummy Tuck: Often times loose skin can be seen along the tummy area following a pregnancy. The muscles in the abdominal wall have stretched and there is really no amount of diet or exercise that can repair those muscles. Many times mothers will ask a doctor to go back in and connect those muscles using the tummy tuck procedure.
- Liposuction: Following your child’s birth, you can expect what’s called leftover baby fat. Your tummy and hips will have some extra fatty deposits due to the weight gain associated with pregnancy. This procedure used to remove fat from targeted areas can help restore a mother physically in those areas.
