Bride Spends Same Amount on Wedding for Plastic Surgery

Following her engagement,  Lindsey Ray put aside searching for something “borrowed” and “blue”. She looked in the mirror, focused on the “old” and how she could make it “new”.

She told ABC News recently, “I remember walking into um the plus store and just the realization of trying on jeans size 22 was the most depressing thing in the world,” said Ray.

Six weeks after the love of her life proposed, she spent $20,000 in plastic surgery to fit into her dream wedding gown. Her wedding by the way costs another $20,000 dollars drastically inflating the total wedding price to $40,000.

This new pre-wedding routine has a name: Bridalplasty, and its becoming increasingly popular in brides-to-be.  The name comes from a new reality show on TV where 12 brides-to-be compete for a chance at a dream wedding and plastic surgery procedures.

Six weeks later, Ray’s pre wedding gift was obvious to friends and family. The tummy tuck and breast lift combination was a success. The article says Ray shed most of her weight through diet and exercise, but has saggy skin and breasts following the weight loss. So, she met with an Orange County plastic surgeon to finalize the look.

While you may think this is absolutely crazy to go under the knife for your wedding, the numbers tell you it’s becoming the norm. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Americans spent approximately $10.7 billion on cosmetic surgery procedures in 2010. Before you turn to a friend to scoff at that number, you might want to know, also according to that study, fifty-one percent of all Americans approve of plastic surgery for cosmetic purposes.

It’s a new world today, one that includes a lot of BOTOX, liposuction, breast implants and tummy tucks. And Lindsey Ray will tell you, she loves the idea. Her biggest challenge for the wedding is no longer being big.

"I'm happy with the results. I know I'll look great in my dress. I'm excited to try on dresses," she said.
