Survey Results Show Patients Value Long-Term Results over Cost

Patients Want Results Rather than Lower FeesWhile many physicians believe that the cost of a procedure is one of the most important decision-making factors for most patients thinking about surgery or treatment, recent survey results from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) prove otherwise. The ASAPS reveals that many people are actually looking for a procedure that will offer the longest-lasting results rather than being the cheapest.

More and more patients are interested in undergoing a treatment or procedure that will have long-lasting effects instead of short-term results – even if they have to pay a little more.

You can find out about the cost of a procedure and the estimated length of the results when you talk to a surgeon or medical professional during your consultation. Take some time to review these plastic surgery before and after photos, and get in touch with a surgeon in your area to learn more about the costs and benefits of your procedure.

Even though the tough economy has many patients on a tighter budget, physicians have reported that they believe many are seeking non-surgical options to save on the cost of their desired procedures. However, the results of two surveys published in the article, “Impact of the current Economy on Facial Aesthetic Surgery” in the September issue of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal states that the contrary to physician views, more patients are focused on longevity than short-term results.

Results of both a patient survey and a physician survey were taken into account for this article. The patient survey was conducted by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (AAFPRS) and the physician survey was conducted by the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF). 95 percent of patients surveyed reported that they would prefer a longer-lasting treatment than one that had an immediate effect for a shorter time frame. In fact, 60 percent of patients surveyed reported that the duration of results was more important than cost in selecting facial aesthetic procedures. This means that procedures such as Botox, dermal fillers and other non-surgical treatments may not be as attractive to those who are looking for long-term results.

Learn more about your procedure by looking at these plastic and cosmetic surgery before and after photos. Get in touch with a plastic surgeon in your area to find out if you would be a good candidate for the procedures you’re interested in and to find out what the duration of results are for each procedure.
