The LipoSonix non-surgical fat reduction device has received FDA clearance to be acquired by the Solta Medical Company. Solta Medical announced that it would be acquiring the LipoSonix system from Medicis Pharmaceutical Corporation on September 13, 2011.
The Solta device is among the latest innovations in non-surgical fat reduction, giving patients who would have considered liposuction to undergo a needless body contouring procedure instead.
Solta Medical is also the maker of the Thermage skin tightening device the Fraxel laser resurfacing device. Adding this innovative body contouring device to its lineup of products may increase distribution to plastic surgeons and cosmetic surgery centers that already use Solta Medical devices at their practice. Solta Medical will be paying Medicis Pharmaceutical Corporation $15 million as an upfront payment for the purchase, and up to $20 million after the LipoSonix device reaches the FDA regulatory status.
The LipoSonix device received FDA clearance for non-invasive waist reduction on September 8, 2011. The device works in a similar fashion as the Vaser Shape system, using ultrasound energy to break up the fat cells without causing any harm to the surrounding tissue. The makers of this device claim that LipoSonix can destroy fatty tissue and the body flushes out the dead cells through natural processes over the course of 8 to 12 weeks.
Studies show that the average waist change for patients was about one dress or pant size. Patients only need to undergo a single one-hour session for this treatment, and they can expect to see visible results within two to three months after their treatment.
If you’ve been thinking about liposuction or other body contouring procedures, set up a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area. Your surgeon may be able to introduce you to the Zeltiq CoolSculpting system and the LipoSonix device during your consultation. Both of these devices are designed to break down fatty tissue without surgery, and can be performed in just a single session. Patients undergoing either procedure still need to commit to a healthy diet and maintain a consistent workout regimen in order to see results.
Results are permanent with this procedure because the fat cells are completely destroyed. Some body contouring procedures only shrink the fat cells, which means that the fat can return when the individual makes changes in their diet or stops exercising.
Talk to a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area to find out if you would be a good candidate for a body contouring treatment or liposuction alternative.
