Demand for Butt Lifts Stayed Strong Despite Recession

Even during the midst of the recession, the demand for certain plastic and surgery procedures stayed strong.

The Brazilian Butt Lift procedure has been deemed the “new shape of beauty”, and has risne in popularity as celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez continue to flaunt their curves.the procedure is designed to give patients a curvaceous figure by transferring fat from the hips, lower back and flank to the upper buttock area, giving the patient a more S-shaped silhouette.

The fat is removed via liposuction from the lower back and the hips, and transferred directly into the tissues shortly after the procedure. Most people can return to work within a week after their procedure, and the body completes the healing process within three to four weeks.

The procedure is currently available at many plastic and cosmetic surgery centers in the United States, but many Americans have opted for an overseas procedure for reduced rates on butt lift, and other procedure packages.

The top surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures for men and women in 2009 included breast augmentation, liposuction, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty and abdominoplasty. Scottsdale plastic surgeon Dr. Guerra of AB Guerra Plastic Surgery reports that the Brazilian butt lift, or buttock augmentation, is among the ‘recession-proof’ procedures.

The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports that overall demand for plastic surgery dropped approximately 2 percent in 2009 from 2008, and almost 10 million cosmetic procedures were still performed. Renalto Saltz, MD, and Aesthetic Society President, reports “Plastic surgery is feeling the effects of the recession, just like many other sectors of the marketplace…however, repeat patients and those putting off surgery, are likely the reason for the small growth in non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Growth in demand will likely return as the recession eases and baby boomer’s offspring begin to explore surgical options.”
