Plastic Surgeons Offer Tips for Holiday Season Makeovers

The holiday months are a prime season for quick fix cosmetic surgery treatments and skin enhancing procedures that require little recovery time and offer instant results. A group of plastic surgeons recently interviewed with Health News Digest to offer some tips for those who want to look their best around the holiday season and attend New Years events.

At the top of recommended treatments is Latisse, an eyelash lengthening treatment available only by prescription from medical spas and cosmetic surgeons. While the eyelash enhancer takes at least a month to six weeks to take effect, it can help to make a significant difference to the eyelashes within a few weeks and eliminate the need for false eyelashes.

Another recommended treatment is a full chemical peel. Deeper chemical peels may require 7 to 10 days of downtime while lighter peels may require only 3 to 5 days of downtime. These treatments help to eliminate the appearance of blotchy skin and correct pigmented areas. They may also be combined with microdermabrasion which helps to buff away dead skin cells and creates a fresh, rejuvenated appearance.

For those that want to get rid of wrinkles and fine lines instantly, injectable fillers are the best option. Botox, Dysport, Radiesse and Juvederm can be used to soften frown lines, plump up sagging cheeks and soften lines around the nose and mouth. In some cases, a combination of fillers may be used to produce the best results. People who do not want to experience excessive swelling or discomfort can opt for fillers that are made with lidocaine. These fillers are virtually painless and there is no need to wait for the anesthesia to take effect.

Dr. Rod Rochrich, professor and chairman of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern also recommends Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatments, facials and full body massages for holiday season makeovers. (Source:
