If you've been thinking about cosmetic enhancements to increase confidence or improve self-esteem, you're not alone. Americans spent nearly $11 billion on non-surgical cosmetic enhancements in 2007, booking up appointments for Botox to get rid of wrinkles, Restylane to augment the lips, and Thermage treatments to tighten and tone sagging skin.
Now, researchers are saying that Botox injections can help many people make that all-important first impression for a successful date.
Experts presented some new findings at the 2008 American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Foundation in Chicago, IL to discuss the positive effects of Botox and its impact on a patient's lifestyle. Patients who took part in the study were measured on physical attractiveness before and after their procedure to rank them on a 'favorable first impression.' Nearly all subjects received high scores for first impressions, which was deemed an essential factor of dating success for the long-term.
While Botox may help boost confidence for the average wallflower, there is no guarantee that the effects will last. The experts who conducted the study did not find any links between Botox and high scores for social skills or relationship fulfillment.
