Spa Services Attract the Budget-Conscious During Weak Economy

As hundreds of cosmetic and plastic surgery centers endure slow business during the weak economy, consumers are still looking for skincare solutions and anti aging treatments - but heading to the medspa or day spa instead.

Spa services including facials, microdermabrasion, laser hair removal and massage are becoming a popular choice for those on a tighter budget this season.  These treatments can cost between $100 - $250+ per session, and offer an alternative 'mini makeover' for these tough economic times.

According to the International Spa Association, there are nearly 15,000 day spas in the United States and about 7 percent of the total number of spas in the U.S. are medical spas - those that offer services administered by licensed doctors and physicians.

The Albany Business Review reports on the steady increase of day spas and day spa treatments in the past couple of years, and highlights the rising trend of hair salons and makeup studios adding 'upgrades' to their menu of services.

Nonsurgical procedures such as Botox, the Liquid Facelift and PhotoFacials are just a few more options for those who want to hold off on extensive surgery until the economic climate improves.
