Fuller Facial Cheeks Key to the Fountain of Youth

While Hollywood continues to bombard us with gaunt models with high cheekbones and skinny, elongated faces, plastic surgeons are now claiming that real beauty is a result of fuller, plumper cheeks.

A recent study published by the Texas Southwestern Medical Center suggests that fat compartments in key areas of the face - particularly around the nose and mouth - are what give the face a more youthful and attractive appearance.

Dr. Joel Pessa, the co-author of this study, states: “This research breaks new ground by identifying the boundaries of specific fat compartments that are key to facial rejuvenation involving the cheeks, and as a consequence, the overall look of the face.”

Many people who lose weight quickly notice fat loss in their face first, but this may only add years to the appearance. However, cheek implants and other facial rejuvenation procedures that help plump up the cheeks and add volume to the face may be the key to the fountain of youth.

Cheek implants are a surgical option for improving the contours of the face and plumping up wrinkles, but dermal fillers may be another way to achieve those youthful looks. Injectable fillers such as Sculptra, Restylane and Juvederm can also be a valuable option for increasing the volume of facial tissues and rounding out the face.

The American Medical Aesthetics center explains how dermal fillers can restore the contours of the face in this brief video:
