Bad Plastic Surgery? ASAPS Announces 'Time Out' Day for Patient Safety

The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) recently announced an official 'Time Out' day to address issues concerning patient safety. According to this Medical News Today report:

"Time Out is when the surgical team confirms the patient's identity, the correct surgical site, and the procedure being performed to help make your surgery as safe as possible. For ASAPS, h onoring Time Out Day is part of the Aesthetic Society's Campaign for Patient Safety, an ongoing initiative to raise awareness of the steps that plastic surgeons and their patients can take to make cosmetic surgery safer."

Making sure you take the steps to choose the right aesthetic plastic surgeon or other medical professional in charge of your procedure is a high priority, and there are several ways to make sure your doctor is qualified for your procedure, has enough experience to perform a successful procedure, and will provide the level of care you need.

How to Find the Right Cosmetic Surgeon addresses several of the key requirements highlighted by the ASAPS, and these include:

  1. Reviewing before and after galleries
  2. Asking for references
  3. Requesting an in-person consultation as soon as possible
  4. Checking board certification and credentials
  5. Learning about other patients' experiences and testimonials
