Q&A: Will there be permanent scar if I have moles removed from my face?

Ask A Doctor Question:

I have several moles on both sides of my face. Will there be permanent scars if I have them removed? How much will it cost? These moles are hereditary and not cancerous.

Anytime you have an incision to remove something we put ourselves back together by making scars.  They are pink to start with and fade with time, but the scar is still there.
These type of procedures are often but not always covered by insurance.

It is really hard to answer these questions without a consultation with one of our surgeons.  Cost depends on size, cancerous or not, insurance, etc. I can have  someone make an appointment to answer those questions.

The moles will need to be evaluated first to determine whether they may be removed by excision or with a laser.  Scarring is determined by many factors including the patient’s skin type and propensity for scarring, the exact location of the mole on the face, as well as the method of removal.  All of these variables including cost will be discussed with the patient during the consultation.
