Q&A: Why do I constantly have a sinus infection?

Ask A Doctor Question:

What can be the cause of constant sinus problems? My nose is either stuffed up or so dry it hurts. My ears feel like they have water in them all the time. I have headaches 3-4 days a week, and thats a good week. The Dr(s) I have seen in the past just give me antibiotics, I want to treat the problem and not be reactive to the symptoms. Please any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your question, Kelly.

Chronic stuffiness and/or dryness could be indicative of allergies. Even if you haven't had them in the past, you can become sensitized over time to environmental agents.

I would suggest trying an over the counter antihistamine such as Zyrtec or Claritin. Taken once daily at bedtime, it should help relive your symptoms.
