Ask A Doctor Question:
my face is very dry, deep wrinkles under eyes, crows feet, deep frown lines between eyes, sides of mouth. I am 55 and want to know what facial procedures are right for me, or is botox or other facial injections ok. OR can I just have non surgical facial procedures performed to look vibrant, youthful, younger and get rid of wrinkles and dry, dull awful skin - Gabriella
Thank you for your question.
Noninvasive procedures such as Botox and hyaluronic acid fillers are very useful to correct subtle changes and to achieve moderate improvement in your appearance. For more significant aging changes, especially with prolonged sun exposure in your youth, surgical procedures accomplish much more and are in the end more cost-effective. A facelift is a very effective procedure and is long-lasting and will correct many of the aging changes that the noninvasive procedures will just mask temporarily. Botox and fillers need to be repeated regularly and people become dependent on them. Although the immediate cost is much lower and the downtime is minimal, it may be time for you to consider a surgical option based on your concerns. A consultation with a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery would be a very helpful first step.
