Top Seven Fillers for Lip Augmentation

Lip augmentation continues to be one of the most sought-after procedures for women who want to achieve a more youthful and attractive appearance. Soft tissue augmentation of the lips helps create fullness of the lip area, and can help to raise or define lips so that they appear more youthful and balance out the look of the rest of the face. If you’ve been thinking about undergoing a lip augmentation procedure, here are seven of the leading fillers to choose from:

1. Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast
Human-based collagen fillers Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast offer some of the most natural-looking results and can create fuller lips instantly. These fillers are easily adapted by the body’s tissues and typically last for four to five months.

2. Zyplast
Zyplast is a bovine-based collagen filler that also promises natural-looking results. This is a popular choice for many men and women who are interested in lip augmentation, but does require an allergy test because many people are allergic to the filler. Zyplast and similar bovine-derived fillers have been used by more than 1.5 million patients around the world, and can provide long-lasting results with frequent touch up treatments.

3. Restylane
Restylane is one of the most commonly administered fillers for lip augmentation, a hyaluronic-acid filler that binds with water molecules in the tissue to create a soft, natural appearance. Hyaluronic acid fillers also help to moisturize the lips while creating the plumping effect. Restylane continues to be one of the most popular dermal fillers in the United States.

4. Perlane
Perlane is another hyaluronic acid filler that is commonly used for lip augmentation. Perlane is made from non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) gel and does not contain any animal products. The filler contains a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid than Restylane, so it may be a better match for people with very thin lips.

5. Juvederm
Juvederm is actually a gel implant that is made with hyaluronic acid, and was approved by the FDA in June 2006. This filler is designed primarily to treat wrinkles and nasolabial folds, but is also a good match for lip augmentation procedures. The filler is available in three different formulas – Juvederm 18, Juvederm 24 and Juvederm 30. Juvederm 30 is the most dense of the three fillers, and is a good match for enhancing lip volume and reshaping the outline of the lips. This filler promises smooth, natural-looking results.

6. Hylaform
Hylaform is made from a highly purified form of hyaluronic acid and helps remove unwanted lines and wrinkles on the lips. It can be administered in less than an hour for lip augmentation purposes, and promises minimal side effects and instant results.

7. Alloderm
Alloderm has been on the market since 1993. It’s a filler made with biomedical materials to enhance the volume and appearance of the lips. The compounds in this injectable are derived from human tissues donated from human cadavers. This compound is a combination of protein and collagen that is easily adapted into the tissues.

In addition to enhancing the lips, many of these fillers are used for wrinkle correction purposes and for filling out hollowed areas of the face. Learn more about injectable fillers in our information guide, or consult with a cosmetic surgeon in your area to find out which of these fillers will be a good match for your lip enhancement procedure.
