It’s one of the latest innovations in permanent fat removal, and readily available at cosmetic surgery offices around the United States.
Vaser liposelection, otherwise known as VaserLipo, received FDA approval as a body contouring procedure in 2001, and the technique has since been adopted by thousands of plastic and cosmetic surgeons around the country.
VASER stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance, and makes use of ultrasonic energy to break apart fatty tissues before the fat is removed with the cannula. Here’s what you can expect with the Vaser liposelection procedure:
What to Expect with Vaser Liposelection
The Vaser Liposelection system uses a patented technology and advanced surgical technique to get rid of unwanted fatty deposits and sculpt the body. High frequency sound energy is emitted into the fatty tissues to break it down within seconds. This makes it easier for the surgeon to extract the fat using a cannula, and produces more predictable outcomes.
With
Vaser, the area to be treated is filled with a saline solution that helps to shrink the blood vessels within a few minutes. This process is used with other liposuction techniques to reduce blood loss and lower the risk of bruising of the skin tissues. The surgeon can then insert a small grooved probe into the fatty tissues to break up the fat on contact. The procedure is complete with a suction device that extracts all of the fat, and a gentle massage action that helps to remove the fat quickly and gently.
After the procedure is complete, the treated area may be wrapped in a tight bandage to improve the contouring effects after fat removal. Depending on the amount of fat removed, you may be required to wear compression garments to further enhance results. These help to increase blood flow to certain areas and promote the natural healing process.
As the skin begins to heal, it will retract and tighten and produces a smooth, natural-looking result. This is one of the key differences between Vaser and conventional liposuction treatments, and you will notice continuous results as the skin goes through the natural renewal process for weeks and months after the procedure.
Other Information About Vaser Lipo
VaserLipo has been deemed superior and more effective than conventional liposuction because the surgeon can target only the fatty tissues for removal, lowering the risk of bruising and trauma to the surrounding tissues. The procedure may also cause less pain and swelling than conventional liposuction procedures, and promises a speedier-than-average recovery.
Both VaserLipo and Vaser HD do run the risk of complications including tissue burning, bleeding and ‘bumpy’ results if the doctor has little experience using this system. However, surgeons who have years of experience in this area are capable of producing outstanding results after a single procedure.
The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia, which means you can be awake for the entire procedure and will not feel any pain. However, some patients prefer general anesthesia, and this may be more appropriate for more extensive procedures or larger areas.
