New Study Results Reveal Dysport is Better than Botox for Crow's Feet

If you’re already a Botox junkie or have thought about getting anti-wrinkle injections to maintain a youthful look, it may be time to try out Dysport, the latest Botox alternative, instead. Dysport has recently been proven better for getting rid of crow’s feet than Botox, according to the results of a study published in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery. The study compared the two different injectables in a 30-day trial, and patients rated Dysport to be much more effective for reducing the appearance of crow’s feet than Botox when smiling.

Dysport vs. Botox

Since Dysport was approved by the FDA for cosmetic use in July 2009, it has slowly become a popular alternative to Botox for a number of reasons. First and foremost, Dysport is actually less expensive than Botox and many doctors offer attractively-priced packages that lower the cost of Dysport even more. Both injectables have the same types of side effects, including light bruising, swelling and redness at the injection site, but these typically subside within 24 hours of treatment. 
Still, Dysport is a less-powerful version of Botox, so there may not be a huge cost advantage when choosing Dysport over Botox in the long-term. Remember that you will need touch-up treatments in order to maintain results, so buying a package and paying for the entire series of treatments up front could help you save some money. Dysport typically lasts between six to twelve months, while Botox lasts between three to six months. 
 

The Dysport and Botox Debate

The recent study published by the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery was the first of its kind to test both Dysport and Botox on patients over a 30-day trial.  Results of another study conducted by the American Academy of Facial and Plastic Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) were presented at the AAPRS 2010 Annual Fall Meeting and concluded that Dysport does have a “quantifiable advantage” over Botox Cosmetic for the treatment of crow’s feet.
