Low Cost Alternatives to Facelifts and Breast Implants

If the state of the economy has caused you to postpone plastic surgery until things improve, you may want to explore some low-cost alternatives of some of today’s popular procedures. From facelifts to breast implants, consumers are getting smart about their surgery by choosing procedures that offer similar results for a fraction of the price.

These treatments may not provide dramatic results, and some will require touch-ups to maintain the look; still, the treatments can help to freshen up your face and enhance your silhouette within weeks. From skin tightening treatments to Botox injections, here’s a close look at alternatives to pricey facelifts and breast enhancement procedures:

Low Cost Alternatives to Face Lift Surgery

Facelifts typically cost about $8,000 - $10,000+ depending on the type of procedure, surgeon you go to, and facility. Facelift surgery involves removing facial fat with mini liposuction, and resculpting the face by removing and moving certain tissues in each facial compartment. Downtime can be anywhere from a few weeks to a month, and the patient is usually left with a number of scars from the incisions. Still, there are some alternatives to this expensive, and intensive, treatment:

Thermage skin tightening treatments: These treatments help to tighten, tone and sculpt the face so that the skin appears firmer and collagen production is dramatically increased. Thermage works by delivering heat energy deep into the skin tissues to make the tissues contract. This also triggers the production of collagen, so skin naturally looks smoother and more rejuvenated.
Average cost: $2,800 for a complete facial treatment

Dermal fillers: Dermal fillers such as Botox, Juvederm, Restylane and Artefill are becoming increasingly popular for people who want to undergo a ‘liquid facelift’. This treatment involves injecting several different fillers into various facial compartments to augment the cheeks, chin and other areas that are sagging. Results are temporary, but the effects can simulate a real facelift.
Average cost: $400 - $600 per injection

Radiesse: For individuals looking for a ‘quick fix’ for just one area of the face, injectable fillers such as Radiesse can provide exceptional results. Radiesse can be used for nose recontouring and upper eyelid reshaping, and provides very natural-looking results.
Average cost: $1,000 for facial compartment reshaping

Low Cost Alternatives to Breast Implants

Breast implants are  made out of silicone or saline, and the procedure can cost up to $5,000 depending on the surgeon, facility and the type of implants you select. However, there are some alternatives for women who want to increase the size and improve the shape of their breasts:

Fat Injections: Surgeons can transfer fat from one part of the body to another relatively easily, and fat can be used to augment breast size. It’s a simple procedure that provides instant results, but the American Society of Plastic Surgeons does warn that the results are temporary, and that this procedure is not without its risks.
Average cost: $500 - $700+ per injection

Titan Laser Treatments: The Titan Laser uses energy to make small ‘injuries’ to the dermis so that collagen is produced at a rapid rate. The treatment can be used to perform a breast lift, and does not require a single incision. This type of treatment would be most appropriate for women who have sagging breasts.
Average cost: $2,500 per treatment
