Common Questions & Answers about Liposuction Surgery (Lipoplasty)

"hi, i'm a 31 yr. old female and had liposuction twice on my abdomen, i'm 5'3 and 110 pd. 80%of my body fat seem to be in my stomach, my first lipo i wasn't satisfied because the moment i ate food i got fat bulges coming out on my sides and lower ab, so my doc. redid it, it seems to me that he took out pretty much all the fat out, but my waist is still fatty feeling, it seems like i have fat rolls, but i think that maybe it could be excess skin, when i tighten my abs it goes pretty flat but my skin feels and looks like an old lady's skin, kind of like "chicken skin" very loose but the rest of my body my skin is very tight, but the first time he did my lipo my skin was firm, do you think that maybe he took out too much fat?.. do you recommend a tummy tuck for this, i don't want to do lipo again, and if you do recommend a tummy tuck how is the scar situation for this and also what if i decide to get pregnant will that put me back to square one or worse with stretch marks, please help..thanks"

Losing Body Fat with Carboxytherapy ? Pros and Cons

If you’ve been thinking about liposuction to get rid of a few unwanted pounds, you may need to undergo a body contouring procedure to sculpt and define your body for the perfect silhouette. Body contouring procedures are designed to reposition and reshape the skin after weight loss so that you’re not left with loose or sagging skin.

An innovative procedure called carboxytherapy is proving to be effective for tightening the skin and reducing the risk of skin irregularities after liposuction; it may also help eliminate excess body fat that could not be eliminated by liposuction alone. Here’s a closer look at carbon dioxide therapy, and how it may help you achieve your ideal figure:

How Carboxytherapy Works

Carboxytherapy is commonly used as a cellulite reduction treatment, but can also help to reduce stretch marks or get rid of toxin buildup under the skin’s surface. The procedure involves injecting a small amount of carbon dioxide gas into the area so that the body delivers blood to the area at a rapid pace. This results in increased oxygen flow to the area, which means the blood can carry the cells back to the lungs for elimination. This process results in improved blood circulation to the area and a reduced risk of congestion that would otherwise cause lumps or dimples in the area after surgery.

The procedure can also help to reduce stretch marks by triggering the production of collagen. Since the skin is stretched and cells are temporary enlarged with the carboxytherapy procedure, the body perceives this is an injury; it compensates by producing additional collagen which helps the skin become thicker and reduces the appearance of stretch marks.

Carboxytherapy can be used on several areas of the body including under the eyes, under the jawline or to treat the buttocks and thighs. Any area that is prone to congested blood vessels and fat accumulation may benefit from carboxytherapy treatments. When the procedure is combined with liposuction and body contouring, the results can be especially dramatic.

Overall, carboxytherapy can help to tighten and smooth out uneven skin, and is particularly effective at reducing cellulite and stretch marks. According to the offices of Lisa Zdinak, an ophthalmic plastic surgeon in New York, there are no known risks linked to carboxytherapy, and the injections have been used for several years in standard surgical procedures (Source: PrecisionAestheticsMD.com)

Other Options for Skin Tightening

Patients who do not undergo carboxytherapy but still want to achieve a slim and toned look after weight loss surgery do have other options.

Thermage is an effective non-invasive skin tightening treatment, and can help improve the appearance of the skin in a few weeks. The procedure involves heat and infrared energy to penetrate deep within the skin and trigger collagen production. This results in a tighter and more toned appearance, and the procedure can be used on almost area of the body.

VelaShape is another increasingly popular skin tightening procedure that can help reduce the appearance of loose and sagging skin. VelaShape works like a deep-tissue heated massage to contract and tighten the layers of skin under the dermis. Over time, the skin begins to shrink and tighten; this procedure is also lauded for its cellulite reducing and fat reduction benefits.
