1974 -  Liposuction is invented in Italy by father and son gynecologists Dr. Gorgio Fischer and Dr. Gorgio Fischer, Jr.  The instrument used was an electrical, rotating scalpel encapsulated by a cannula that suctioned out dislodged cells.

1977 -  Yves-Gerard Illouz begins using blunt tipped cannula that results in fewer complications and a shorter recovery time.

1985 -  Dr. Jeffrey Kline of California begins developing tumescent technique.

1986 -  Dr. Peter Fodor introduces super-wet technique.

1987 -  Ultrasonic-assisted liposuction (UAL) developed in Italy by Dr. Michelle Zocchi.

1998 -  Power-assisted liposuction (PAL) becomes available.

1999 -  Laser-assisted liposuction (LAL) is developed in Columbia by Dr. Rodrigo Neira.
