LATISSE Eyelash Enhancer - Things You Need to Know

LATISSE has been making waves in the anti-aging and beauty industry as thousands of women flock to the medical spa  and cosmetic surgery office to fill their prescription for the eyelash growth-enhancing serum. LATISSE eyelash enhancer was approved for cosmetic use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in early 2009, and is designed to affect the growth of the eyelash hairs over their usual growth cycle. LATISSE is applied at night to the roots of the eyelashes at the top of the lids, and some people start to see results in as little as six weeks.

If you’ve been thinking about trying LATISSE to speed up eyelash growth,  here are some important things you should know about this innovative beauty product:

1. Results are not permanent. LATISSE will only provide results as long as you are using the product. If you stop applying the LATISSE eyelash serum, your lashes will return to their normal state.

2. There are some side effects involved. LATISSE may not be for everyone, so testing the product on a small area of the eyelid may be a good way to make sure that the product is right for you. Some people do experience an itching sensation, redness of the eyes and eye irritation. In some cases, the eyelid darkened slightly, and the eyes became very dry. According to the official LATISSE website, approximately 4% of patients experienced these side effects.

3. LATISSE can provide results by week 8. Full growth of the lashes is expected by weeks 12 and 16, but some people see results in as little as six weeks. You can expect to see some results by week eight, and the growth is very gradual.

4. LATISSE is the only prescription solution on the market. There are several nonprescription products designed to stimulate the growth of the eyelashes, but these are not guaranteed to work and may not provide lasting results. LATISSE does require a prescription from the doctor. The solution is a 0.03% concentration of “bimatoprost ophthalmic solution”. Even though any doctor can prescribe LATISSE, you should check with an anti-aging specialist or medical spa  to make sure LATISSE really is right for you.

5. You only need to apply the product once per day. LATISSE is applied to the upper eyelid using a small, FDA-approved sterile applicator, and only needs to be applied to the skin once per day. If you miss a day or a few days, you do not need to apply the product multiple times to ‘catch up.’

6. Eyelashes will eventually grow longer, thicker and darker. Even if it takes 10 weeks for you to see results, you will notice that your eyelashes will grow longer than usual, and also appear thicker and darker. While LATISSE is not a permanent replacement for mascara, you may find that you need to apply less eye makeup to achieve an attractive result.

If you think LATISSE may be a good fit for you, contact an anti-aging specialist or medical spa in your area. They will be able to discuss the benefits of LATISSE with you, and write a prescription for you if you meet certain criteria.
