Goretex vs. Alloderm Fillers Explained

People looking for more permanent solutions for lip augmentation and soft tissue fillers that provide long-lasting results may consider Goretex implants or Alloderm fillers instead of otherwise-popular fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm. Both Goretex implants and Alloderm fillers offer a number of benefits, and can produce long-lasting results with minimal side effects.

Here’s a close look at how Goretex implants and Alloderm fillers work, and how you may benefit these facial enhancement procedures:

How Goretex Fillers Work

Goretex, otherwise known as GORE-TEX® are actually a set of lip implants made from medical-grade materials. These polymers have been used in surgery for several years, and when inserted into the lips, are designed to adapt to the body’s tissues with ease. Goretex implants are designed with micropores so that the lip tissue can grow around it, producing natural, long-lasting results.

Goretex is made with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), a synthetic polymer made with carbon an dfluroine. It has been used as an implantable material for over 26 years. When it is used to treat nasolabial folds, it is inserted directly beneath the dermis using a Keith needle and pushed into the desired spot. When it is used for lip augmentation purposes, the implant is inserted into the upper and lower lips after a horizontal incision is made, slightly stretching the tissue of the lip and creating contours.

Some of the complications associated with Goretex implants include infection, malpositioning, undercorrection or overcorrection and bleeding. Still, Goretex implants may be a good match for those that want more permanent results with their facial enhancement procedure.

How Alloderm Fillers Work

Alloderm fillers are designed with compounds from donated skin, so they contain a mixture of collagen and protein that are easily adapted by the skin’s tissues. These fillers are very soft and pliable, and there is no need to worry about an allergic reaction. This type of filler is commonly used to enhance the lips or fill out lines and creases that are a result of the aging process. Over a period of time, Alloderm is completely replaced by the body’s own tissues, so it serves primarily as a stimulus for the body to fill out the area with fresh cells and tissue.

Since the filler is derived from human tissues, extra steps have been taken to ensure that the compound is free of any viruses or diseases, and all potential donors have been screened for HIV and hepatitis. All living cells are removed from the compound during processing, and the product is treated with a solution that kills off any viruses.

Alloderm fillers may be a good match for people who want something more permanent than fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane.

Both Goretex implants and Alloderm fillers offer a number of benefits for facial enhancement, and are available at select cosmetic surgery centers and medical spas around the country.
