Mesotherapy Basics
Mesotherapy is one of several non-invasive body contouring procedures that involves injecting fatty tissues with a special compounds. The injection also contains anesthetics and medications to reduce pain and enhance the feeling process.
Mesotherapy is now a standardized procedure, and only the ingredients and compounds in the injection have received FDA approval. Under the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act of 1938, the FDA has only been able to approve certain prescription and non-prescription drugs and active ingredients. Mesotherapy needs to be administered only by a licensed doctor who also has ACCME Approved Continuing Medical Education Credits (CMEs).
With mesotherapy, a series of injections are administered just below the surface of the skin. These injections can be administered to the thighs, buttocks, knees and abdomen, and within a few days, the fat cells begin to break down.
