Common Questions & Answers about Liposuction Surgery (Lipoplasty)

"hi, i'm a 31 yr. old female and had liposuction twice on my abdomen, i'm 5'3 and 110 pd. 80%of my body fat seem to be in my stomach, my first lipo i wasn't satisfied because the moment i ate food i got fat bulges coming out on my sides and lower ab, so my doc. redid it, it seems to me that he took out pretty much all the fat out, but my waist is still fatty feeling, it seems like i have fat rolls, but i think that maybe it could be excess skin, when i tighten my abs it goes pretty flat but my skin feels and looks like an old lady's skin, kind of like "chicken skin" very loose but the rest of my body my skin is very tight, but the first time he did my lipo my skin was firm, do you think that maybe he took out too much fat?.. do you recommend a tummy tuck for this, i don't want to do lipo again, and if you do recommend a tummy tuck how is the scar situation for this and also what if i decide to get pregnant will that put me back to square one or worse with stretch marks, please help..thanks"

Are You a Good Candidate for Power Assisted Liposuction?

Published Apr 24, 2012

Every surgeon uses different liposuction techniques to get rid of body fat permanently. Power assisted liposuction (PAL) is one of the most innovative fat removal procedures available in the United States and is often chosen by board-certified cosmetic and plastic surgeons to remove large volumes of body fat with ease. The procedure is less traumatic than traditional liposuction procedures, and offers a number of body contouring benefits.

Get in touch with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area to find out if you may be a good candidate for power assisted liposuction. Your surgeon can discuss the pros and cons of this procedure and find out what areas you want to target.

Best Candidates for Power Assisted Liposuction

Power assisted liposuction is designed to break down large fatty deposits in areas of the body that have become resistant to diet and exercise. The procedure can be performed on the hips, buttocks, thighs, stomach and back, and involves inserting a vibrating cannula into the tissues to loosen the fatty deposits for easy suctioning.

You may be a good candidate for power assisted liposuction if you:

  • Are of a relatively healthy weight and in good health
  • Are prepared to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen after the procedure
  • Want a procedure that has a low risk of bleeding and bruising
  • Can set aside some time off work to recover and heal from the procedure
  • Have been struggling to lose weight through diet and exercise

Some surgeons use power assisted liposuction in conjunction with other liposuction techniques, such as SmartLipo and laser-assisted liposuction. This ensures maximum body sculpting benefits and can help to create your ideal silhouette.

Pros and Cons of Power Assisted Liposuction

Power assisted liposuction offers many benefits over conventional liposuction procedures, but there are also some drawbacks to keep in mind. The procedure is generally more targeted than conventional treatments, and can effectively remove both large and small fatty deposits. There is less risk of excessive bleeding and bruising because the surgeon has more control over the vibrating cannula. The procedure only requires very small incisions made in the skin, which means a fast healing time and less noticeable scars after the treatment.

Even with all of its benefits, power assisted liposuction does have a higher rate of complications than other types of liposuction techniques. The procedure does not tighten the skin like laser-assisted liposuction can because there is no heat energy emitted into the tissues. If the surgeon does not use the correct techniques or does not have enough experience, there may be lumps and bumps left under the skin and a second procedure may be required to smooth out the tissues.
