Lap-Band surgery does not require physical cutting of the stomach or rerouting of the digestive path, making it an ideal solution for patients who wish lose excess body weight to improve their health.

In this video, Dr. Muhammad A. Jawad, MD, FAC, performs a newer form of Bariatric surgery, the Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band procedure. It is sometimes referred to as Lap-Band surgery.

During the procedure, a band is wrapped around the upper part of the stomach, creating a smaller pouch for food storage. The band limits the amount of food a patient is able to consume, while increasing the time it takes the intestines to digest it.

After the procedure the band can be adjusted to allow food to pass more slowly or quickly through the digestive system, depending on the needs of the patient.
