Latte or Mocha? How Your Coffee Habit Can Combat Cellulite

Whether you’re preparing for beach season or just want to look your best for an upcoming event, making sure your skin is free of unsightly cellulite can be a challenge. Even when you’re at a healthy weight, your body may hold onto several patches of stubborn cellulite that prevent you from achieving a smooth and toned look.

Fortunately, the solution may be as simple as enjoying a latte or two; combating cellulite with coffee is proving to be an effective way to tighten and tone up the skin, and can even reduce the appearance of cellulite.

What Causes Cellulite?

Cellulite is the result of trapped fatty tissue deep within the skin’s layers; at this layer, the tissue is often pushed up near the surface of the skin creating the ‘dimpled’ appearance. Most women have an uneven distribution of fat, especially in the areas around the thighs, near the knees, and sometimes around the stomach. Since this fatty tissue stays ‘stuck’ in these key areas, the blood supply to these areas can be inefficient. This leads to a tougher, unmovable patch of cellulite that won’t disappear with diet and exercise alone.

The Coffee and Cellulite Connection

Achieving your ideal figure may just be a few cappuccino sips away. Drinking coffee on a regular basis can promote healthy circulation and keep your appetite in check – making it easy to stick with a healthy diet and lose a few pounds while firming up. Caffeine in the diet, and in different cellulite creams and lotions, may help the skin appear firmer, tighter and smoother over time.

Increasing caffeine intake has been linked to an elevated heart rate, a temporary boost for the metabolism, and increased blood circulation. Since cellulite is often a result of poor blood circulation and a weak metabolism, downing that cup of coffee each day may give you more than just a buzz.

Caffeinated beverages including tea, espresso, and soda can help promote blood flow and elevate the heart rate for a short period of time. It’s still important to watch sodium levels when you want to firm up – too much sodium can lead to bloating and may make cellulite look even more pronounced – but simple sources of caffeine such as green tea, black coffee or herbal teas with milder levels of caffeine may be a valuable addition to your daily diet.

Creams, lotions and serums that promise to banish cellulite often contain coffee ingredients because coffee extracts can help draw blood to the skin’s surface.  While these lotions aren’t a quick fix solution for cellulite, they can leave the skin looking tighter, firm and more toned for a short period of time.

Other Ways to Reduce Cellulite

While coffee and tea offer several benefits for your anti-cellulite diet, cellulite won’t disappear with coffee alone.  Your skin will simply appear healthier and more resilient after blood circulation improves, but the fat cells themselves are yours for good.

Cellulite removal and reduction treatments are a few solutions for getting rid of fat cells and reducing the appearance of cellulite for the long-term. Common cellulite reduction treatments include:

Synergie for Cellulite – this innovative massage and heat treatment involves wrapping the body in a tight suit and applying pressure to the treatment area with a heated massage device. The device emits energy waves that help improve circulation and may help remove localized fat stores.

Mesotherapy Injections – these injections are filled with herbs and vitamins that can assist with the fat breakdown process. A series of mesotherapy injections can help reduce body fat for the long-term.

Endermologie – a non-invasive procedure that helps remove localized fat and patches of cellulite with a vigorous massage technique. Fat cells are broken down during the massage treatment, and then excreted from the body through the lymph system

SmartLipo – this laser fat removal treatment works under the skin to breakdown fatty tissue and remove fat cells completely. SmartLipo is also used as a standard fat removal procedure.
