Obagi Blue Peel® Basics

Blue Peel is applied on the skin in 1 to 4 layers, then removed in about 25 to 30 minutes after the blue tint has darkened, indicating completion.

What Is Obagi Blue Peel®?

Obagi Blue Peel®, developed by Dr. Zein E. Obagi, is a trichloracetic acid (TCA) peel to rejuvenate skin and eliminate fine lines, scarring, and pigmentation problems.  The chemical in Obagi Blue Peel® is slower acting than chemicals in traditional peels, allowing treatments to be tailored to specific needs.

How It's Done

Before Blue Peel is preformed, one cycle of Obagi NuDerm should be administered to prep the skin.  Blue Peel is applied on the skin in 1 to 4 layers, then removed in about 25 to 30 minutes after the blue tint has darkened, indicating completion.  A stinging sensation may be experienced, and a fan is usually set up to help alleviate some of the discomfort.  Some patients will require 2-3 treatments.

Technology

Obagi Blue Peel® is the result of several years of development and testing, and can now offer similar results to traditional chemical peels and laser skin resurfacing.

Recovery / Post Op Expectations

As a result of the peel, a blue tinge can remain evident on the skin for 3-10 days.  Skin begins to peel in about 2 days and completely heals within 7-10 days.  Makeup should not be worn until after healing is complete.  You should wait about four weeks between treatments.

Complications

Obagi Blue Peel® does not produce skin pigmentation problems, and risks or side effects, including soreness and irritation, are usually low.

Am I A Candidate?

There are no allergic side effects or adverse effects due to skin tone, therefore Blue Peel works well for a variety of skin types, including Asians, Caucasians, and African Americans.

Cost

The cost of Obagi Blue Peel® can range from $400 to $700 depending on the amount of layers used.  In addition, you will probably have to purchase an Obagi NuDerm kit to prep the skin.  An all-inclusive kit starts at just under $300 and ranges upward.
