Healing After BOTOX and Dermal Fillers – What You Need to Know

While BOTOX injections and dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane and Perlane can be administered over lunch hour, most people do leave the doctor’s office slightly swollen and sore.

Skin rejuvenation procedures that involve dermal filler injections can cause skin tenderness and redness at the injection site, and it may take a few days for the skin to heal and adjust to the treatment. You can still head off on your lunch hour for a quick filler treatment but you’ll need the right healing products to manage the pain afterwards.

Here are some of the best options for healing the skin after BOTOX and other dermal filler procedures:

Cold Compresses After Dermal Filler Injections

A homemade cold compress is an effective way to soothe away the pain and reduce skin tenderness. These are especially helpful for lip augmentation procedures and frown lines; you can apply the cold compress gently against the treatment area and begin to feel results after about an hour.

Soothing Gels After Skin Rejuvenation Procedures

Natural gels and creams with an aloe base can be particularly helpful in soothing redness and any inflammation. Your cosmetic surgeon can give you a time frame for applying topical treatments to the skin, and you may need to refrain from touching the area for a few hours. Still, a soothing gel can make it easier to manage the swelling or any bruising that may occur.

Hot Compress Packs After BOTOX

A hot compress can reduce pain very quickly, and is more effective than a cold compress if your skin is becoming inflamed or particularly sensitive. Hot compresses can also reduce the risk of bruising, so apply these directly to the treatment area if you are in pain.

Cooling Masks After Dermal Fillers

A cooling gel mask is another option for reducing swelling and minimizing the risk of bruising. These can usually be applied a few hours after treatment to help with the healing process.

Ice Packs After BOTOX Injections

Ice packs can help increase the healing process and reduce discomfort. These are ideal for the evening hours when the swelling has gone down and a simple homemade ice pack of frozen vegetables or a bag of ice will work.

Gel Facial Masks After Skin Rejuvenation Procedures

If the pain and swelling persist through the evening, you can also make use of a gel facial mask that can be heated in the microwave or cooled in the refrigerator. These masks are designed to sit on the face and provide some extra comfort to reduce swelling.

BOTOX, Restylane, Juvederm and Perlane fall under the ‘minimally invasive surgery’ category but still cause some pain and discomfort. Still, there are several ways to speed up the healing process and experience less pain after BOTOX or other dermal fillers. Your cosmetic surgeon will guide you through the entire process of the dermal filler administration and recovery phases, and may even have some of these products available at the office.
