Procedure Description:
Bonding is a method of restoring decayed teeth, making cosmetic improvements, changing the color of teeth or reshaping teeth with a composite material. Bonding will lighten any stains, close up minor gaps, fix small chips and can be used to correct crooked teeth, to a certain degree.
How It's Done:
First, a thin coating of a plastic material is applied on the front surface of the teeth. A bonding material is then applied and sculpted, colored and shaped to provide an attractive, natural-looking result. A high-intensity light then hardens the plastic, and the surface is finely polished.
Technology:
No special technology is necessary to perform bonding
Recover/Post Op Expectations:
Since bonding does not result in the removal of any tooth structure, there should be no sensitivity of opportunity for infection.
Complications:
There are no known complications with bonding.
Am I a Candidate?
If you are unhappy with the appearance of a tooth or teeth due to chipping staining, gapping or shaping, you may be a candidate for bonding.
Cost:
The costs of bonding will range depending on how much of the tooth is being fixed. Small chips may be fixed for as little as $100, a whole tooth may cost up to $500.
