VelaShape vs. VelaSmooth for Body Shaping - How to Choose

Cellulite, sagging skin and loose skin after weight loss surgery may be taking their toll on your body confidence, but there are several cellulite and body shaping treatments available to help you achieve your dream figure. The VelaShape and VelaSmooth procedures are designed to target cellulite, smooth and tone the body tissues, and can also tighten the skin. Both are performed on an outpatient basis and are relatively painless.

Find out if you’re a good candidate for VelaShape and VelaSmooth by contacting a medical spa in your area.

Here’s a close look at what the VelaShape and VelaSmooth procedures offer, and if you may be a good candidate for any of these body shaping treatments:

How VelaShape Works

VelaShape is a skin tightening and smoothing procedure and works to create a contoured appearance. It is designed with Syneron’s elos™ technology, which delivers a combination of bi-polar radiofrequency (RF), infrared light energy, vacuum massage and mechanical massage. The heated treatment works to smooth the skin’s surface and  also targets cellulite. The effects of the vacuum and mechanical massage, combined with the delivery of heat energy, result in the metabolism of stored body fat and an increase in lymphatic drainage.

The VelaShape procedure is designed to reduce or shrink the size of the fat cells and fat chambers so that cellulite becomes less noticeable, and the skin gradually becomes smoother and more toned. According to Syneron, clinical studies showed a circumferential reduction of the thighs of at least 1 centimeter in 85% of all treated areas. Patients typically undergo a series of VelaShape treatments  and must maintain a healthy diet and exercise program in order to see results.

How VelaSmooth Works

VelaSmooth works slightly differently than the VelaShape system. It is designed to only target cellulite by breaking up the fatty tissue, and does not work to tighten and tone the skin. This procedure is also designed with elos™ technology, and delivers a combination of infrared light and massage deep into the skin’s tissues to make cellulite disappear. The vacuum action of this procedure helps to stimulate collagen production and makes the skin much smoother and stronger.

Most people undergo at least two treatments for eight weeks in order to achieve noticeable results. Patients undergoing VelaSmooth treatments must also maintain a healthy diet and keep up with their exercise regimen in order to see desired results.

Choosing Between VelaShape vs. VelaSmooth

Both Velashape and VelaSmooth offer a number of benefits, but some people may be better candidates for one over the other. VelaShape is a good match for those who have lost a significant amount of weight from liposuction or after diet and exercising, and want to tighten and tone the skin. VelaSmooth is appropriate for treating the dimples and lumps that are symptoms of cellulite. VelaSmooth is less of a body shaping and tightening treatment.

Both of these body shaping and cellulite treatments are performed on an outpatient basis, and produce progressive results.
