Undergoing hair transplant surgery can be one of the most significant changes in your life and it may have taken you a few months to make the decision. Your hair restoration doctor will explain what you need to do to prepare for your surgery during your pre-op meeting and consultation, and may even provide you with a list of tips to guide you through the process. Being well-prepared for this procedure can help to relieve some of the anxiety commonly associated with any type of surgery or cosmetic treatment.
Some essential hair transplant pre-surgery tips to keep in mind:
Take two loose hats with you. You will need to keep your scalp covered after surgery, so plan on taking at least two loose hats with you in case one doesn’t end up fitting you properly after the procedure. Avoid baseball caps or any type of visor that will be too snug.
Wash your hair the morning of the surgery. You will want to wash your hair and scalp with a good shampoo and use a cleansing shampoo to get rid of all types of residue. Wear loose-fitting clothes that won’t leave you sweating and uncomfortable.
Get plenty of sleep the night before. Any type of surgery can be mentally taxing and stressful on the body. Make sure you get plenty of sleep the night before your procedure so you’re well-rested for the day ahead. Ask your doctor if you can take prescription medication or herbal sleep supplements.
Pack a travel pillow. If you have a long ride home, pack a soft travel pillow so you can get some rest right after the surgery. You may want to keep your head propped up and stabilized during a bumpy car ride.
Have emergency contact information and a list of contacts available. - Make an emergency contact list for your home and also a list of contacts on hand in case you need to reach someone during your hair transplant recovery days. You may want to tell only some close friends or family members about your procedure, and explain why you may be away for a while.
