Breast Augmentation Results - How Long Do They Last?

You’ll see results right after your breast augmentation procedure but you might be wondering, how long will they last? Most women with breast implants enjoy the fact that they can wear swimsuits and low-cut tops with confidence. However, it’s important to remember that these results are not permanent. If you gain or lose weight, experience some significant hormonal changes, or you live a very active lifestyle, you may need to undergo a breast lift or get a new set of implants.

How Long Do Breast Implants Last?

The breast implants themselves will last for about 10 years and up to 20 years in some patients. However, it’s the skin and tissues around the implants that will change during this span of time. You might see some sagging of the skin as you go through the aging process and this can make your implants droop or lose their tight, sculpted look. A plastic surgeon can perform a breast lift to correct this problem.

Silicone breast implants do have a risk of rupturing or deflating. If this happens to you, you will need to undergo another procedure so that the surgeon can remove the deflated implant and insert a new implant. If you decide not to get a replacement implant, you do have the option of getting a breast lift instead.

Signs You Need Another Breast Augmentation Procedure

Some women experience certain symptoms when a breast implant ruptures or simply decide to undergo another breast augmentation procedure when their body changes. You might need another procedure if you:

  • Experience pain, tingling, swelling, or numbness around the breast area
  • Feel hard knots or lumps around the implant
  • Experience a significant change in breast size
  • Your breasts appear distorted or imbalanced
  • The breasts become extremely hard or extremely soft

Talk to a breast augmentation doctor in your area if you think you might need a second breast augmentation procedure.
