Describe the most rewarding experience that you have had working with a patient?
A few years ago, I had a patient see me because he had a broken tooth. However, I became concerned after reviewing his health history. He told me that he was sleepy all day, would fall asleep at work, was afraid to drive because he might doze off, and never felt as though he slept well. I suspected that he had obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a dangerous medical condition where a person stops breathing for long periods of time several times a night. I referred him for a sleep study and he indeed was diagnosed with OSA. His case was severe, but with treatment he has reclaimed his life. He is refreshed, feels comfortable with driving and tells me that I "saved his life".
What does living in the Madison community mean to you?
I grew up in Madison and never gave much thought to what it would be like to work here. But now, after practicing in Madison for the past 18 years, I can't imagine being anywhere else. The warmth and support of the people in this community are incredible. Patients are loyal and appreciate and have become our friends. Fellow businesses work together in support of one another. My husband went to the Thanksgiving parade in town many years ago and announced: "This is like living in Mayberry." I think he is right-there is a real sense of community in Madison and the surrounding towns and I am honored to be a part of it.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
"Service is not about servitude, but about anticipating desire." -Phoebe Damrosch "If you don't stand for something, you will fall for everything."
Finish this sentence: If I weren't a doctor I would be___.
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
I enjoy all the procedures I do, but some mean a bit more to me. The opportunity to build a relationship with a new patient and find out about their individual needs and wants is important to me. Also, I enjoy working with children, especially doing early orthodontic intervention. With early orthodontic treatment, we can create both a necessary dental change and an added aesthetic improvement that young children can see and appreciate.

She has completed a comprehensive post-graduate program in orthodontics. Dr. Adams has dedicated herself to the art and science of cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry.
As a Certified Invisalign Premier Provider and member of numerous orthodontic organizations for general dentists, Dr. Adams is able to incorporate tooth movement, be it minor or major, to supplement a patient’s care. She looks at the whole face when designing a treatment plan, and with children she takes into consideration future growth and its potential impact.
As a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, Dr. Adams is able to help diagnose and treat bothsnoring and sleep apnea. She recognizes the importance of a good night’s sleep and knows that whether it is “just snoring” that is disturbing a bed partner, or the more dangerous Obstructive Sleep Apnea that puts you at higher risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke and diabetes, these situations can be treated with the use of a customized oral appliance.
Dr. Adams, who understands the importance of treating the whole patient, realizes that dental care should not be “one-size-fits-all” and that open communication with her patients will ultimately lead to excellent treatment and a very satisfied patient.
Her approach is consistently more than “smile-deep,” as demonstrated by some of her key capabilities:
- Recognizing airway issues in children that can impair tooth and jaw development as well as breathing and sleeping
- Intervening early to improve jaw development for long-term aesthetics and dental health
- Identifying and treating Obstructive Sleep Apnea to help control associated issues such as high blood pressure, difficulties with weight loss, and depression
- Educating and providing solutions to cavity-prone patients
- Making cosmetic changes that can minimize the effects of aging
- Taking blood pressure, doing regular oral cancer screening and discussing general medical issues and providing physician referrals if indicated
