As we get older, our bodies change. Many factors contribute to these changes, including gravity, the aging process, hormonal changes, heredity, and childbearing. Skin, the largest organ in our bodies, loses its elasticity and begins to droop. You can keep the underlying muscles firm with a good fitness program, however, the skin will sag anyway at some point. The skin also becomes thinner. Childbearing women may experience additional challenges.
The aging process begins in the mid-to-late 20s and impacts the face in many ways. The skin, fat, muscles, and bones change. With time and age, the skull becomes thinner and smaller, causing the overlying tissue to shift the facial area. This occurrence, along with simultaneous loss of elastic tissue, results in deep and increasing lines of the face, as well as the sags and bags brought on by the relentless pull of gravity. Deepening lines around the corners of the mouth and across the forehead, and the sagging of the outer eyebrows and jaw line are all a part of the aging process. Tissues around the eye become weak which causes visible bags and pouches. Additionally, degenerative changes occur in the outer layer of the skin, making it etched with wrinkles.
