Drake's Issues Voluntary Recall of Sunny Doodles Snack Cakes
Kansas City, Mo. July 12, 2002 - Interstate Bakeries Corporation is voluntarily recalling all Drake's Sunny Doodles snack cakes marked with BEST BEFORE DATES or SELL BY DATES of July 22 through August 2. During a routine review of product formulation, it was discovered that the soy flour used in Sunny Doodles was not listed on the packages' ingredient legend. No other Drake's Cakes are affected by this recall.
Consumption of this product by people who have an allergy or sensitivity to soy protein may result in a serious allergic reaction. As a precaution, Drake's will remove all Sunny Doodles from store shelves and will distribute new product, which does not contain any soy flour. The company has not received any complaints or reports of illness related to this mislabeling
Sunny Doodles are distributed in 3oz snack packs and 12oz family packs primarily on the East Coast in the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
People with known soy allergies should not consume the recalled product and should contact Interstate Bakeries Consumer Affairs Office at 816 502 4012 or the www.drakescake.com Web site for reimbursement. It is not necessary for customers without a soy allergy to return already purchased product.
