Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Front and centre, your nose is there for the whole world to see, so not surprisingly, rhinoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures available today. Size, shape and alignment—whether due to injury or heredity—can be surgically corrected. But appearance is not the only reason you might consider this procedure; a misshapen nose can go hand-in-hand with breathing problems.

  • How it’s done
Depending on the characteristics of your particular nose, your doctor will choose either the open or closed method of surgery. In the open method, an incision is made across the skin between the nostrils. This allows the surgeon to see the internal structure of your nose. While this may allow the surgeon to operate with greater precision and ease, there will be more swelling and it will take you longer to recover. In the closed method, no external incision is made, so recovery is faster.

  • Recovery
7 to 10 days; swelling for 2 to 4 weeks.

  • Complications
Rare and usually related to surgery and anesthetic.

  • Cost
    $4,500 to $5,500.
