Face Lift and Neck Lift (Rhytidectomy)

The Basics

It’s an unfortunate fact of life that age, the sun and heredity all seem to impact the face first. If you want to refresh your appearance—reducing and perhaps even eliminating wrinkles in your face and neck—this procedure is one you should check. A face lift will effectively tighten your skin making it look younger and firmer. One thing to remember though; while it may be called a face lift, this procedure is actually designed for your neck and the lower half of your face only; if you want changes to your forehead area, you will need a brow lift or botox injections.

  • How it’s done
There are several variations on this classic surgery, but basically, your surgeon will make an incision on the temple by the ear, and then continue on around the back of the ear and into the scalp. Where necessary, excess tissue, skin and fat are removed. A local or general anesthetic may be used.

  • Recovery
    7 to 10 days.

  • Complications
Bleeding and bruising can be a problem, but major complications are unusual.

  • Cost
    $6,500 to $12,000.
