Question: The Cost of Blepharoplasty |
| Can you give me a price
range for an eyebrow lift or what ever it is called to
help raise my eyelids? |
Doctor's Answer |
Dear Arlene,
Prices are difficult since they vary across the country
and by practitioner. A brow lift will help lift the entire
forehead area and permanently remove the crease between
the eyebrows. This costs from $3000 to $5000. An upper
eyelid blepharoplasty which removes skin and makes a nicely
defined fold in the upper eyelid costs about $2000 to
$3000.

Question: Removing Bags Under the Eyes |
| How do you remove bags
beneath the eyes. |
Doctor's Answer |
Dear Paul,
The bags are removed through a procedure called lower
eyelid blepharoplasty where the fat that is spilling over
the rim of the orbit (where your eye sits) is removed,
the ligaments holding the lower eyelid in place are tightened
and the excess skin is removed either directly or tightened
with laser resurfacing.

Question: What to Expect After Blepharoplasty |
| I am 57 yr.old female
and would like to know exactly what I could expect from
the upper and lower eye fat pads being removed. My eyes
have always looked puffy even when I was young, but now
the upper eye has that loose skin and I get so tired of
people saying how tired I look under my eyes when I don't
feel tired. Is it a short term surgery that is done in
the office and will it leave my eyes swollen or red for
a short amount of time or will I be able to go right back
to work? Does it leave the area under the lower lid completely
flat or is there still going to be a little puffiness?
Thank you so much for your time. |
Doctors' Answer |
Dear Ms. Frenna.
Upper eyelids are often done in the office. When I do
them it takes about 35 minutes, sutures are removed in
three days, and bruising lasts a week at the most.
Lower eyelids need to be done in a surgery center (also
under local though) because you need better monitoring
and sedation for the lower lids. Usually the puffiness
goes completely away, though some of the fine wrinkles
may persist.
Hope that helps.

Dear Audrey,
The recovery and the procedure used depend upon the
problem. For the upper lids, a small amount of fat removal
and the making of a clean fold are the most important
things. The recovery from this is about 5 to 7 days.
The lower lids are a different question. Basically,
if there is a lot of fat excess but the skin is in good
condition, a standard lower eyelid blepharoplasty can
be performed with recovery in a similar amount of time
to the upper eyelids. If, on the other hand, the skin
is crepe-like with many fine wrinkles, I have found
that a much better procedure is moderate fat removal
with or without tightening of the ligament at the corner
of the eye (canthopexy) coupled with a laser resurfacing
of the lower eyelid skin. This gives a very smooth result
which lasts a long time and there is no lower eyelid
incision to be seen. The only down side is that your
lower eyelids will be red for up to 6 to 8 weeks after
the procedure - coverable with makeup after the first
5 to 7 days.

Dark circles can be
improved by chemical peel and by some eyelid surgery procedures

Dear Jennifer,
There are basically three possible combination of components
to black circles. One is pigment which can readily be
remove with the use of pigment removing lasers. The
second, is true bags which require blepharoplasty for
treatment. The third is the presence of an actual skeletal
groove (nasojugal groove) which some people have at
the inner corner of the eye and extending down the medial
(inner side) of the cheek proper. This can be filled
with either your own tissue (fat) or an implant. I would
suggest that you visit with a cosmetic plastic surgeon
in order to see which components need to be addressed
to correct your problem.

Question: Removing Wrinkles from Under the Eyes |
| I have wrinkles and
bags below my eyes beyond my years. I had corneal ulcers
and dry eye syndrom which caused me to constantly tug
at my eyes. The skin under my eyes and eyelids is very
loose. I would like to correct the situation. I am willing
to undergo surgery or other treatment. could you please
advise what is safe and effective and what kind of results
I can expect. Thank you. |
Doctors' Answer |

Carol,
You are a candidate for lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).
It is very important that it be done in such a way that
lids are supported upward in anyone that has a tendency
to dry eye syndrome.
I suggest you see a board certified plastic surgeon
in order to determine your individual needs.

Dear Carol,
The tightening of the lower lid and, likely, elevation
of the outer corner of the eye so as to tighten the
ligaments which support the lower eyelid to help with
your symptomatology. The lower eyelid skin could then
be resurfaced to help with the fine lines and any bags
could be removed without any incision. The first procedure
mentioned is called a canthopexy or canthoplasty and
is best performed by plastic surgeons or ophthalmic
surgeons.

Question: Combining Surgeries |
| I'm interested in having
two procedures done in the near future: rhinoplasty (I'd
like to have the tip narrowed) and blepharoplasty on the
upper eyelids. I am 41 and am in excellent health. can
these two procedures occur in tandem on the same day?
What has your experience shown regarding the success of
these two procedures done in succession? Are there additional
complications when coupling such procedures? |
Doctor's Answer |
Dear Katy,
These are readily performed at the same operative sitting.
There are really no additional complications to be expected
with two such procedures. |
